KNAUB CLAIMS 50-LAP SUSQUEHANNA SHOWDOWN AT SSP ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Dover’s Gene Knaub won the 50-lap Cumberland Truck Parts Late Model feature event at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night. Miller collected $3,000 for his win, but failed to choose the correct two envelopes for the $25,000 bonus. Knaub opened up the first envelope that did contain the correct half of the $25,000 prize, but car owner Donnie Broderick did not have the correct second half in his envelope. This was the closest any driver has come to winning the $25,000 in five years.

Pole sitter, Justin Ehrhart grabbed the lead from the start with Grant Adams in hot pursuit during the early stages of the 50 lapper. Adams bolted by Ehrhart on the third circuit using the top side of the finely prepared surface by track preparer Bobby Weaver. A caution on lap four for three spinning cars in turn two slowed the field. On the restart, Ehrhart pressured Adams on the low side, but Knaub followed Adams and made the pass by Ehrhart entering turn 1. One lap later Knaub took command of the top spot and never looked back to claim the 50 lap main event in one of the most talented field of Late Model drivers to ever compete at SSP.

Throughout the middle stages of the race, the battle for second was wild and furious. Adams, Ehrhart, Travis Mease, Shaun Jones and Craig Wagaman all made challenges for the runner-up spot. Wagaman held onto the runner-up spot from the middle of the race to lap 42. Wagaman came from a 19th place starting spot and took over the second place spot on lap 25. Justin Ehrhart rebounded to reclaim the runner-up spot from Wagaman to finish there at the end. Shaun Jones made a last lap pass to claim third over Wagaman. Adams rounded out the top five. Mease, Ashley Barrett, Roy Miller, Rick Singleton and Larry Baer finished sixth through tenth respectively Craig Wagaman was awarded the “HTMA Hard Charger Award” by picking up 15 positions to finish 4th after starting at the 19th spot. In Late Model action, heat race wins went to Justin Ehrhart, Ashley Barrett, Grant Adams and Gene Knaub.

KNAUB TAKES SB NATIONALS AT CENTRAL PA SPEEDWAY
For immediate release September 5, 2010
by Terry Whetstone

Gene Knaub of Dover made his first ever visit to Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway a good one as he picked up the Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Steel Block Late Models Nationals.

Allen Dillenger of Hermitage remains undefeated in the Street Stocks and Ray Hickok Jr. of Commodore grabbed the Four Cylinder feature.

With the missing man formation at the front of the field to honor McGarvey and with his daughter, Kelli on the flagstand as the honorary starter, 24 of the Late Models took the green flag.

Tim Fedder took the lead at the start with Gene Knaub in second and Chuck Kennedy in third. As the race continued Fedder continued to set the pace, but Knaub was all over the bumper of the Fedder, Knaub tried high and low multiple times then as the field began to work the slower traffic, Kanaub was able to go to the outside and take the lead off the second turn.

The first caution flew on lap 25 with Duane Brooks going up in smoke as the engine let go in the 1B. On the restart Knaub continued to lead with Fedder second, but Fedder looped the number 8 in the second turn, relegating him to the rear of the field as Kennedy assumed second and Tim Smith was third.

Smith was able to get past the #51 of Kennedy on lap 26 as the field continued to try and run down Knaub, but Knaub was hooked up. Smith then started to draw closer to Knaub but the double checkered flags waved as flagman Mike Frisco brought the race to an end. Smith, Kennedy, Chris Farrell and Luke Hoffner completed to the top five. Kennedy, Knuab and George Fultz won the heats and Grant Adams won the B main.

KNAUB PICKS UP THE WIN AT WILLIAMS GROVE
Ageless racing veteran John Ebersole led the 20-lap Tattoo Mom's 358 Late
Model feature. While second place driver Mike Goodwin chased the leader,
10th place starter Gene Knaub was on the move. A number of early race
cautions allowed Knaub to work his way to the front. By lap seven Knaub
was in second position.

For three laps Knaub and Ebersole had a side-by-side fight for the lead.
At the midway point of the race Knaub took the lead from Ebersole at the
exit of turn four.

Once in front Dover's Gene Knaub drove away from the field. He easily won
his fifth of the year. John Ebersole and Charlie Schaffer were even going
across the finish line in the race for second. The position goes to
Ebersole. Travis Mease finished in fourth and Bobby Beard was in fifth.

“That is the key; you got to get the car working. You got to put the car
where they ain’t. The car worked perfect tonight, top, bottom wherever I
wanted to go. I know the car was underneath me tonight,” said winner
Knaub.

The qualifying races for the 29-car 358 Late Model field went to Chase
Billet, Bobby Beard and Gene Knaub. Scott Richwine won the consolation
race.

KNAUB WINS FIRST RACE OF THE TRI-TRACK SERIES AT WILLIAMS GROVE

The Tattoo Mom’s 358 Late Model feature was the first leg in the Tri-Track Series. The series, involving Williams Grove, Lincoln and Trail-Way speedways, brought in a strong field of 31 cars.

Steve Billet led the first lap of the feature. On the second lap Billet slid up the track in turn one allowing Steve Weikel to take over the number one position.

The caution flag came out on lap three. Following the restart it was Mike Walls taking over the lead. Now running in second, after starting eighth, was Gene Knaub. Knaub applied heavy pressure on leader Walls. The ninth lap found Walls moving up a lane in the first turn. Knaub drove under Walls and the lead duo raced side-by-side into turn three. In the third turn there was contact between Walls and Knaub. The Walls car spun bringing out the caution flag.

Following the restart Gene Knaub was in complete control of the race. He easily won his third Williams Grove feature by 20-lengths over Wes Alleman, D.J. Mease, Roy Miller and Jake Lettich.

After the feature a protest was filed on the Gene Knaub car. The Knaub car was taken to Dover for inspection. The black No. 1 passed the inspection.

KNAUB PICKS UP THE WIN AT WILLIAMS GROVE
Gene Knaub became the first repeat feature winner in the Tattoo Mom’s 358 Late Model class. Knaub took advantage of a big opening-lap move to win the 20-lap main event.

Wes Alleman started the feature on the pole and led the first lap.  Gene Knaub started in fourth place. On the front straightaway Knaub made a three-wide sweeping pass of Mike Goodwin, Duane Harbaugh and Travis Mease.  The move worked and Knaub was in second place.

Knaub’s winning move came on lap two. Knaub found a good bite on the slick-racing surface. Off the exit of turn two Knaub powered his way by leader Wes Alleman.

While Knaub held an eight-length edge, the battle was on for second place between Alleman and Jake Lettich. For several laps, in the second half of the feature, Lettich held second place. Alleman was able to regain second position following a restart.

Knaub, driving a rebuilt Rocket Chassis, easily won the feature over Alleman, Lettich, Travis Mease and Bobby Beard.

Bobby Beard, Travis Mease and Wes Alleman won the qualifying races for the 28-car 358 Late Model field. Chase Billet was the winner of the consolation race.

KNAUB PICKS UP THE WIN AT WILLIAMS GROVE

Gene Knaub fought off bothersome electrical problems to capture the win in the 20-lap Tattoo Mom’s 358 Limited Late Model feature.

Matt Nailor led the opening lap of the feature. Craig Wagaman became the new leader on the second circuit of the Williams Grove Speedway half-mile.

Gene Knaub began the feature in fourth place. By the end of the third lap Knaub was running in second place. A fifth lap restart set up Knaub’s run for the lead. Following the restart Knaub went to an outside line to challenge leader Craig Wagaman. On the sixth lap Knaub used the outside groove to pass Wagaman.

With eight laps remaining in the feature the red flag came out when the car driven by Chaz Walls rolled over in turn two. Walls was not injured in the spill.

Knaub, from Dover, held the lead to the finish. At the finish line it was Knaub collecting his 13th career Williams Grove Speedway feature win eight-lengths in front of Craig Wagaman, Bobby Beard, Matt Nailor and Gene Wrightstone.

“We are struggling here a little bit. This is a brand new racecar and I don’t have it quite to my liking. We dug ourselves a pretty good hole last week but we will keep plugging away,” said Gene Knaub.

Gene Knaub, Mike Walls and Bobby Beard won the qualifying heat races for the 30 358 Late Models. The consolation race went to Bernie Beard.
